I guess for every creator, the first piece of creation released to the public always have a chosen spot in his memory. For me, The Tournament of Zulula is it. My first ever completed and published project. It was based on a Coco game I made called Sword Duel. Believe it or not, the graphics were ok for the time, considering I had to work with 4 colors I couldn't even chose (light cyan, red, white and black). I loved making that game, and even though it met with only moderate success, I still think highly of it! This game was created entirely in MS Quick Basic with no external libraries of any kind.

On the continent of Rastika, in the country of Zala, there lies the city of Zulula. A rich, prosperous city since the end of the Great War Of Freedom, Zulula is a place of both good and evil, law and chaos. Each year, people from Koros, Shakiri and even the realm of Intisgurb come to Zulula to participate in the greatest tournament of all, the tournament of Zulula. The tournament of Zulula is an action-packed arcade game featuring multiple player character races (including odd creatures), single competition or tournament. Battle monsters such as the weird Land Octopus, the funny Ostrich and the feared Cyclop. Control many types of character including the one-footed Eye, the blood-thirsty Zombie or even a Human! Fight your way to the top to win the tournament of Zulula.
At the time, game introductions were often a single image. In the case of 'The Tournament of Zulula', this is it!
The tournament mode took the form of an elimination tournament. Here Kloyd has just beaten Barko, Hagromil and Blodsuker are next up!
Every creature came complete with it's own portrait and statistics. Here, two of the odds-on favorites : The Eye and the Cyclop.
Depending on how advanced you were in the tournament, the scenery would change. Here semi-finals are held in front of the abandoned Giant's Castle. Grunty has the size advantage, but Blodsuker can regenerate at an incredible speed.
The finals, once again a zombie vs. a cyclop. Though the game was balanced, those two creatures remained fan-favorites!
The zombie's regenerative power vs. the human's longest reach. If Hagromil can keep Blodsuker out of reach, he'll get him!
Everytime a match is over, the local newspaper would run an article about the match. Here, they are announcing poor Barko's death. Poor doggy...
The tournament is over! After the carnage a winner is finally crowned!
Notice the newspaper pages were actually high resolution monochrome images. They don't look hi-res until you take a look at the textures on the healer and the dog. It's the same low-res 4 color image loaded on a high-res monochrome screen.
