TasksScriptwriter, Programmer, Game designer
Year1989
DescriptionMeant to recreate the American attack against Lybia in 1986, Raid over Tripoli is an arcade shooter that consists of three scenarios. During the first scenario the player flies the SR-71 recon plane over Lybia, trying to take pictures of the enemy HQ while avoiding missiles. In mission 2, the player must defend the US aircraft carrier against the Lybian air-force using a vulcan turret. And finally in mission 3, the player must conduct the actual bombing run against the Lybians.

The detailed mission briefing :-)

One of the many beauty shots in the game. An SR-71 taking off.

The SR-71 flying at high altitude (another beauty shot with palette animation)

The SR-71 reaches the Lybian coast. The mission begins.

In-game shot. The first part of the mission consists of dodging surface-to-air missiles.

Part II of the mission : protect your aircraft carrier from Lybian bombers by moving the crosshair over the them and pressing the trigger!

The last beauty shot, a pair of F-111 attack bombers taking off. Actually, they look more like corsairs or crusaders, I guess when you're 15 it's all the same.

The final part of the mission was much more chaotic. In addition to incoming missiles from the ground, you also had to deal with a Lybian mig tailing you.

With superior agility and a bit of luck you could eventually...

...get behind the mig and shoot it down!

As with most games I made during that time, the sprites are part of a large picture, and are "GETted"

And to save memory on the floppy disk, they were usually part of a game's background. The sprites would be painted over after being "GETted"
